PBCOC Power Upgrade - Details and Notice of Membership Vote
PBCOC Power Upgrade Details and Notice of Membership Vote
In response to the current power issues in the park, mainly excessive consumption based on the current transformer capacity, and old, outdated equipment, it was decided at the AGM in August of 2021 to create a “Power Committee” to look at options for upgrading the power supply in the park. The following are the details determined by that committee.
The electrician chosen by power committee: Madden Bros Electric Inc. (“Madden”)
2 options were investigated by the committee:
100 amp service was quoted, and in consultation with both Madden and SaskPower it was determined by the board that it does meet the needs of the park. In addition to a significant amount of “unknown costs” that could not be predetermined, the additional costs were deemed excessively high for this option to be considered.
50 amp service upgrade details are as follows: - SaskPower to install additional 6 – 800 amp mains (one existing 800 amp main to remain for a total of 7 within the park)
- Madden to provide labor and materials to install and wire for 130 pedestals for 50, 30 and 20 amp receptacles (does not include for sites 62, 64, 65, 66, 76 and 70 which already have 70 amp and 50 amp respectively)
- Madden to decommission all old 400 amp power services, therefore the old power supply will no longer work
- Each site to have 1 post with “check meter” for own power use and pedestal with 2 x 20 amp, 1 x 30 amp and 1 x 50 amp plugs (photo attached at bottom for reference) - Individual meters will be read once yearly and billed to each member at the end of season according to individual use
- PBCOC “owns” the meters and is responsible for upkeep, which is unlikely for many years
- Ian Chupa will assist Madden with the trenching. PBCOC responsible for supplying sand and gravel as needed for the trenching along with the supplies for water line repairs etc.
- Madden will have a pre-planning meeting with each member prior to work beginning to ensure placement of posts and areas for trenching are agreed upon
Total for 50 amp upgrade per site: $5200.00 (subject to change based on updated equipment pricing for 2022)
Total for sites 62, 64, 65, 66, 70 and 76 (portion of the SaskPower upgrades and landscaping to roadways) $1000.00
A 50% deposit will be required with the signed contract and the remaining 50% is due upon completion of work.
To date, no grants have been available as application deadlines were already past prior to the initiation of the power committee. Financing will be up to the individual members and their financial institutions/resources. The PBCOC board is working with the Resort Village to apply for one additional grant, but there is no guarantee that will be approved. If one is obtained, there would be a refund/credit provided to each member.
This will be by a majority vote decision. The options to vote will be YES or NO in favor of the upgrade to 50 amp power in the entire park.
There will be a question and answer Webex call for all membership on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. Please provide your questions via email to pbcoc135@gmail.com by Saturday, February 5, 2022. We will have both a power committee representative and Madden on the call to ensure questions are answered in the most detail possible. Providing questions ahead of time will ensure we can provide accurate answers that evening. We will attempt to provide a short period for additional questions that evening as well. These questions and answers will be emailed to each member for reference upon completion of the meeting. At present, work could commence at the beginning of September, and be finished by the end of this year, to be ready for the start of the 2023 season.
The vote will take place via Survey Monkey through email on Thursday, February 10, 2022.
Sincerely, Your PBCOC Board of Directors
